When press is actually what you do with buttons …

So, Borders has recently released the Kobo eReader, a light-weight, battery-powered device that lets you store digital books and read them on its 6 inch display. Its 1GB in-built storage can hold about 1000 books, plus you can add memory via its SD card slot. You can communicate and synch with other devices, including your computer, via its Bluetooth and USB connections. I guess it’s Borders’ answer to Amazon’s Kindle… Well, at this stage it’s really the Kobo vs Kindle vs iPad vs iPapyrus vs Nook vs Boox vs PocketBook vs Cybook vs .. well, I could go on really, but you get the idea.

What you really need is a good guide that summarises a whole load of these into an easy-to-follow table that doesn’t overload you with brain-fogging words instead, so you can match what you really need with what features each of them has. Check out Wikipedia’s Comparison of e-book readers.

From what I’ve heard, one of the Kobo’s most attractive factors is its low cost (US$150, AU$199), given the features that it has. As of this writing, I’ve noticed both Borders International and Borders Australia are reporting “out of stock” – sold out of eReaders – so they must be doing something right.

For more, visit the Kobo page on Borders’ International website or the one on the Australian Borders website.

Wait, didn’t I hear about a talking one that gives you invaluable tips on travelling across the galaxy? Maybe I should hang out for one of those? And maybe a babelfish to stick in my ear …

Today, it’s used by over 200 million websites and ranks as the most popular blogging software around! The fact that you’re staring at such a blog now makes yours truly among one of those over 200 million …

USB/Bluetooth Laser Projection Keyboard

Posted by admin on May 19, 2010 under Science, Technology

Here’s something on my wishlist (not that I have an official one :P ) – a keyboard that isn’t. You get a shaver-sized device that projects a keyboard image you can type on like a normal keyboard. Being both USB and bluetooth, not only is it good for computer users but also those who type extensively on lil’ mobile devices.

You can get one from City Software in Australia.

Just trying to resurrect myself, world!

Posted by admin on May 4, 2010 under Uncategorized

After problems experienced with the last server-provider, we decided to move to a new one. In doing so, I had to reinstall this Wordpress by myself, and I’m trying to resurrect all / as many as I can, the posts from the previous installation. Never done it before so there’s that unsexy learning curve. Then, I get sidetracked into plenty of other work & personal things *hmmm*.

So far, I’ve installed Wordpress for this blog (obviously, as you’re reading this..) & chosen a theme (thanks Jinsona) from which I’ll gradually customise. Bad news is, I can’t seem to import the old posts back directly as this install’s a newer Wordpress version from the one I left at.

So, here’s to tedium, followed by a super-incredible new(ish) blog! *raises glass*

Hello world!

Posted by admin on May 16, 2009 under Uncategorized

Welcome to my blog!

For those who’ve been here before you maybe saying, “Wait a moment! What’s happened here?”  Our previous server was down for the count again, so we decided to try a different one.  So, here we are, a brand new WordPress installation without any content/residents.  I believe the plumbings & electricity’s fitted, but now I’ve gotta move in all the furniture & everything.  I may try to find backups & restore those or restart from scratch.  But any activities’ll have to wait at least a few days when I have more time.

Feel free to register yourself here.  You’ll be the 1st to know when there’s stuff here to see, again ;)

Cheers!

What do you get if you cross Dr Who with Mr Bean?

Let’s cast our tardis back in time
To a time where I can continue this rhyme
To a time when we could party like it’s 1999!

Here’s something for Dr Who fans from Comic Relief back in ‘99. Would you believe Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) as the Doctor timelord? Then I suppose you’d believe Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley, all playing the very same character, in the same story. Among the villains, Jonathan Pryce is hilariously over-the-top as The Master and, yes, there are Daleks. There are 4 five-minute parts, altogether, and here’s the 1st one:
